The court of POCSO Additional District Judge-Special Court Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay on Monday sentenced the 26-year-old to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI).
In addition, the court punished the convict Rajesh Gope with a fine of Rs 35,000, which he will not pay and will have to undergo another three years and three months of imprisonment. If the sentence is paid by the convicted person, it goes to the victim to cover her medical expenses.
On 21 September 2021, Rajesh Gope abducted a 13-year-old girl from her house in Panchvati Nagar, Sonari on the pretext of marrying her. After abducting the minor, the convict, who would live in the same locality, raped her. After the girl disappeared from the house, the victim's father filed an FIR at the Sonari police station, prompting the police to launch a drive to trace the girl.
However, the victim was recovered from the Sonari site by Childline five days later. Later, according to the victim's statement, the police arrested Rajesh Gope. According to the prosecution, there were seven witnesses in the case, including the investigator.
